Drug Class and Uses: Sumatriptan Succinate is in a class of medications called "triptans" and is used in the treatment of migraine headache. Multiple generic drug manufacturers have gained FDA approval for marketing generic versions including Teva Pharmaceuticals and Ranbaxy Laboratories. In addition, Dr Reddy's and Sandoz are producing generic versions authorized by GlaxoSmithKline the innovator company. Previously, GlaxoSmithKline was the only manufacturer of these products with US sales over $950 million in 2007.
